A Natural Choice

Marney Binns and Booth Boughan
April 19, 2011

Marney Binns and Booth Boughan have seen the world from many vantage points: Oklahoma, Chicago, San Francisco, Italy, India, Los Angeles. When the adventurers decided to tie the knot, the destination was a simple choice: back to the bride's native Arizona for a stylish celebration.

The ceremony was held in the Binns Wildflower Pavilion in the Desert Botanical Garden. The bride, whose mother is a very active board member with the DBG, knew right away that it would be the perfect venue for her wedding.

Marney's experience in graphic design was put to work in crafting the invitations and many of the elements that tied the wedding together. She designed a wedding logo featuring an agave century plant, which blooms every 100 years. The plant seemed a fitting symbol of the couple's once-in-a-lifetime relationship.

Aesthetic elements for the wedding were simple and sophisticated, based on an avocado and natural kraft color scheme. Save-the-date cards featured small envelopes tied with baker's twine. To learn which date should be saved, the recipients untied a bow and pulled a card from the envelope which was hand-stamped with the date. The invitation suite featured wallpaper backing with avocado-colored pindots, kraft twine and hand-stamped tags. Die-cut dinner menus were embellished with a sprig of rosemary.

The natural desert environment was beautifully enhanced by the florals they selected. The bride carried a bouquet of white roses, desert greens, and succulents, which was echoed in the groom's boutonniere of succulents wrapped with natural twine.

While the pair had planned a party on the Ullman Terrace, Mother Nature decided to offer a lucky rain shower, and the reception was quickly moved inside. Green linens, hand-made table signs and low arrangements of orange, coral and white flowers accented with succulents fit seamlessly with Marney and Booth's gorgeous natural theme.

The couple had their wedding bands engraved with an line from their first dance song, "Home" by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. The line reads, "home is wherever I'm with you," which is especially fitting given their adventurous lives and love for travel.
