Dressed in White

Dr. Lisa Bienstock and Gregory Zilin
January 29, 2011

Winter is never more beautiful than when it is dressed in white, and the wedding of Dr. Lisa Bienstock and Gregory Zilin was proof of that notion.

Damask-covered invitation booklets wrapped with a monogrammed band set the tone for a romantic winter wedding at The Phoenician. Guests arrived to find a softly glowing room enhanced by trees, hanging votives, and garlands of white hydrangea, roses, orchids and gardenia. The aisle was lined with cut-crystal candelabra.

The illuminated chuppah, swagged in white and ivory taffeta and crowned with fresh white flowers, was elevated to afford every guest a view of the touching ceremony.

The cocktail hour featured a vodka luge, towering ice sculptures and an expansive appetizer buffet, which included a chef-attended sushi bar in addition to jumbo gulf shrimp, lemon thyme lamb chops, smoked salmon and caviar. The escort table was enhanced by arrangements in tall trumpet-shaped vases overflowing with hydrangea, peonies and orchids. Place cards in jeweled frames were arranged on the table, which was draped with multiple layers of organza and embroidered linens.

A breathtaking reception was set in the Phoenician Ballroom, where the wedding canopy had been moved to frame the dramatic six-tiered wedding cake decorated with fresh flowers cascading from one layer to the next. White pearls embellished the edge of each layer.

The couple's framed ketubah wedding contract was displayed alongside the cake. The couple's sweetheart table was positioned in front of the cake table, and was embellished with exquisite linens, a crown of white flowers and two distinctive gold lamps.

Individual tables were draped in opulent ivory and gold custom linens, while chairs bore distinctive, elegant chair jackets fastened with pearl rings. Square pearl frames held table numbers, and the beautiful table setting featured clear chargers embellished with gold beading. Menus were placed beneath the chargers for dramatic effect.

After dining on an exquisite meal of filet of beef, striped spinach and cheese ravioli, fresh vegetables and a tomato and mozzarella stack, guests savored a flourless chocolate cake embellished with gold.
