Alison and Brandon fashioned their wedding celebration around elements that held timeless appeal, focusing on details that would always represent their unique story.
For these two, moving to the future required them to honor the past and the twists and turns that brought them together. Alison and Brandon recall with a smile their days as third graders, when he was known to "terrorize" her mercilessly. They became reacquainted years later, forging a friendship that grew beyond distance and time. Fate and their faith in God kept bringing them together, until the pair realized that theirs was a once-in-a-lifetime love.
Although they reside in Connecticut now, Alison and Brandon returned to their hometown—where the story began—to celebrate their wedding.
They chose an elegant combination of navy, white, and a fresh touch of yellow to anchor the decor and attire. Alison's strapless lace gown was adorned with a fabulous jeweled belt. Bridesmaids, who carried bouquets of yellow roses, wore navy gowns accented with pearl necklaces. The men in the party had just the right amount of vintage cool, with their skinny ties and suspenders. Each sported a navy monogrammed pocket square and a brightly colored watch. In honor of their Chinese heritage, Alison wore a red Chinese dress during the receiving line at the reception, then changed back into her white gown for the remainder of the evening.
Centerpieces brought the ballroom alive with color. Ivory floral arrangements bloomed in stone urns perched on bases filled with fresh lemons. Smaller navy vases added more color to the table settings.
The bride and groom selected their siblings—whom they consider to be their closest friends—to serve important roles in the wedding party. Brandon's sister was Best Woman, while Alison's brother was Gentleman of Honor.
Although the newlyweds had looked forward to an outdoor cocktail hour, they were surprised with a lucky rain shower that brought the party indoors. The rain appeared to be divine intervention: one of the things they miss about Arizona is the smell of the land after it rains. Arizonans know that rain is a blessing because it nourishes the land. And, as Alison's sister-in-law remarked, rain is good luck because "a wet knot is harder to untie."
